Calculation Methodology

Inputs

  • Course Name: Optional label to identify your specific classes.
  • Grade: Standard A-F scale corresponding to a 4.0-0.0 base metric.
  • Type: The rigor level (Regular, Honors, or AP/IB).

Scoring Rules

All GPA outputs calculate the mean average across all class entries. The base letter grade dictates the points unweighted (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc).

Weighting Bonus: Honors classes inject an extra +0.5 points to the earned grade, while AP/IB level courses inject an additional +1.0 points before averaging out the overall sum.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA is calculated on a scale of 0 to 4.0 and does not take the difficulty of your courses into account. A weighted GPA does consider course difficulty, with AP, IB, and honors classes being given more 'weight' on a scale that typically goes up to 5.0.

How is high school GPA calculated?

Your GPA is the average of all your final course grades. It's calculated by converting your letter grades to grade points (e.g., A=4, B=3), summing them up, and then dividing by the number of courses taken.

Why is my high school GPA important?

Your GPA is a key factor that colleges look at when considering you for admission. It's a snapshot of your academic performance and work ethic.
