Method, assumptions and worked example
Required remaining score = [target grade − completed average × (1 − remaining weight ÷ 100)] ÷ (remaining weight ÷ 100). Use the average on completed work, not the course points already earned.
Worked example
Your completed average is 84%, the final exam is worth 50%, and the desired course grade is 80%. Completed work contributes 84 × 0.5 = 42 points. The final needs (80 − 42) ÷ 0.5 = 76%. A score of 76 on that exam produces 42 + 38 = 80 overall.
Several assessments still remaining?
Add their full-course weights and interpret the result as the weighted average required across them. For example, if an exam is worth 30% and a project 20%, together they are 50%. Exam 80 and project 70 yield (80 × 30 + 70 × 20) ÷ 50 = 76 across that remaining work. They need not each score exactly 76.

Read impossible targets honestly
A result above 100% is not reachable within a strict 0–100 model. A result at or below zero means the target is already secured even with zero on remaining work, subject to other course requirements. The output is not clamped to hide either situation.
Remaining weight must be greater than zero. For a completed course, use the weighted calculator with all completed weights totaling 100%. If remaining weight is 100%, the entered completed average has no influence. Extra credit, separate final-exam pass rules and institution-specific rounding are excluded.

What should I enter as my current grade?
Enter the average on completed work after normalizing its weights. If you have earned 42 course points from 50% of the course, enter 84, not 42.
Can it handle multiple remaining assessments?
Yes. Enter their combined course weight; the result is the weighted average needed across that group.
Why is the required score over 100% or below zero?
Over 100% means the target is unreachable in this model. Zero or less means the target is already secured if no separate course requirement applies.
