Method, assumptions and worked example
Shipping budget = sum of your entered charges + that subtotal × contingency percentage ÷ 100. This is a quote-based budget, not a live freight-rate engine. Distance alone cannot produce a reliable international shipping price.
Worked example
A hypothetical quote has 2,000 freight, 250 origin charges, 400 destination charges, 300 inland transport, 100 insurance and 50 other costs. Subtotal is 3,100. A 10% contingency adds 310, giving a budget of 3,410. Import duties are zero in this arithmetic example only; that does not mean your shipment is exempt.
Before comparing offers
Request written quotes for the same route, cargo, dates and service scope. Mark which charges are prepaid and which are payable on arrival. Ask about quote validity, free time, storage, inspections and excluded handling. Enter all amounts in one currency using your chosen exchange rate before calculating; the currency selector does not convert money.
Use confirmed duty and tax amounts from the relevant authority or customs adviser. The tool does not determine import eligibility, customs value, tax base, Incoterms obligations or insurance coverage. A contingency is a budget reserve, not a promised maximum bill.
Car-specific costs
Confirm whether the vehicle can legally be imported before booking. Compare RoRo and container quotes with the same vehicle dimensions and operating condition. Collection, loading, compliance work, port collection and registration may be separate costs.
