Journey Fuel Cost Calculator

Add the distances for each leg of your journey to calculate the total fuel cost.

Journey Fuel Cost Calculator Overview

Inputs:
  • Distance for Each Leg (miles) - The distance for each segment of your journey.
  • Fuel Efficiency (MPG) - Your vehicle's fuel efficiency in miles per gallon.
  • Fuel Price ($ per gallon) - The current price of fuel per gallon.
Output:

Estimated total fuel cost for the journey in USD.

Formula:

Total Distance = Sum of distances for all legs

Fuel Needed (gallons) = Total Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency

Total Cost = Fuel Needed × Fuel Price

Example:

For a journey with legs of 200 miles and 300 miles, fuel efficiency of 25 MPG, and fuel price of $3.50 per gallon:

Total Distance = 200 + 300 = 500 miles

Fuel Needed = 500 ÷ 25 = 20 gallons

Total Cost = 20 × $3.50 = $70

Frequently Asked Questions

The Journey Fuel Cost Calculator estimates your trip cost by dividing the distance of your journey by your vehicle’s fuel efficiency (miles per gallon or kilometers per liter) to calculate the fuel needed. It then multiplies this by the fuel price per gallon or liter. For example, a 400-mile trip with a car that gets 25 MPG and fuel at $4.00/gallon costs (400 ÷ 25) × $4.00 = $64.

The accuracy depends on the fuel efficiency you input, which can vary based on driving conditions, traffic, and vehicle load. Fuel prices may also fluctuate, and the calculator assumes a constant price. For better accuracy, use your vehicle’s average MPG and the most current fuel price.

Yes, the Journey Fuel Cost Calculator works for any vehicle as long as you know its fuel efficiency (MPG or km/L). Whether you’re driving a car, truck, or motorcycle, input the correct fuel efficiency and fuel price to get an accurate estimate for your journey.
